Alona area is characterized by a hilly landscape, covered by natural forests and agricultural areas. The region performs an integration creating a harmony between man and nature.

Greenstein, Hargil have prepared, at the request of the Alona Regional Council, a Master Plan of the Alona Park covering an area of about 30,000 dunams.

The location of the park, east to Benyamina, between the metropolis of Haifa and that of Te lAviv invests this area with a high potential for the development of tourist and vacation activities.

Located with in the Park is the ancient water supply system, 23 km long, is an ingenious and spectacular water system, built in the Roman era in order to supply drinking water for the city of Quesaria. The water system includes an underground water tunnel, open water channels and an aqueduct.

The project of Mey Kedem focused on restoring and preserving a 300 m long part of the underground tunnel, which is carved in rock and through which water is running to this very day. The shafts to the tunnel, provide one of the main attractions in the park. The tunnel was cleared of sediment and dust, in order to allow people to walk upright. The paths leading down to the tunnel were reconstructed, parking areas were activated, walking pathways were paved, sitting areas were built, and a small open theatre was constructed. The visitors who come to the area can choose between entering and walking inside the tunnel or walking along the pathways on the surface.

The park resembles a streaming river. The path curves softly, acompanied by water vegetation and stream pebbles. Salix trees and fig trees, planted around each opening leading to the tunnel, emphasize the rhythm of the location of the shafts.

Project Initiators: Alona Regional Council, the Jewish National Fund and the Government Tourism Office.
